Oleksii Marushchak holds a PhD in Biology and has built a research career spanning more than 200 scientific works, including 38 articles published in journals indexed by Scopus, Web of Science, and Index Copernicus. Over the past five years alone, he has presented findings at more than 50 conferences across Ukraine and internationally, establishing himself as one of the most active voices bridging academic Herpetology and practical breeding work.

As Scientific Director of the Responsible Herpetoculture Foundation and Content Editor of the Responsible Herpetoculture Journal, Oleksii plays a central role in shaping how the organization translates hands-on breeding knowledge into peer-reviewed, defensible science. His editorial work ensures that RHJ’s contributions, drawn from an international team of experts, meet the same standards expected of any academic publication, while remaining genuinely useful to practicing breeders and keepers.

Since 2017, Oleksii has served as Deputy Director for Science at BION Terrarium Center, where he oversees the scientific rigor behind the center’s breeding programs, documentation standards, and conservation initiatives. His presence at BION is, in many ways, the clearest embodiment of the organization’s founding philosophy: that responsible herpetoculture is not a marketing phrase but a discipline that demands real scientific accountability, tested and defended at conferences, in journals, and in the laboratory itself.
