On 10-11.11.2019 two members of BION’s team namely Ivan Neizhko and Oleksii Marushchak visited Kamiel Hamers – owner of HammerHead Reptiles and at the same time one of the most famous breeders of spiny tailed lizards. As a part of BION’s Responsible Herpetoculture project, we try to get in touch with famous herpers all over the world who follow the key rules and principles of responsible reptiles’ keeping and breeding, making significant contribution to herpetoculture worldwide. Kamiel has a fantastic collection of 12 Uromastyx species including such rare ones as Saara hardwickii, Saara loricata, Uromastyx asmussi and Uromastyx dispar flavifasciata. His entire reptiles’ keeping facility is unusually ergonomic and economical. For example, in summer, 100 percent of all terrariums are lit due to the electricity received from solar panels. The room is heated almost entirely by incandescent lamps. In such a place, it turns out to maintain and successfully breed many species with similar climatic requirements. The trip gave us the opportunity to see with our own eyes how effective and efficient responsible herpetoculture can be with the proper approach. Kamiel opened some of his secrets If you also want to know some of them – find them in our video!
